Albeit on my own, I am still happy with it. I am a little disappointed in myself for letting my teammates slip away without participating, but will definitely cover my portion of the 2011. I haven't done the math but I believe I am personally at about 150 miles. Even though it's a little behind the pace necessary, the improvements I have made make me extremely happy. Tonight I pretty casually ran 3 miles and walked one more. Also, my cardio has improved to where I can run 3 miles and my heart rate stays right around 150. With that heart rate I am still burning a fair amount of fat instead of glycogen and sugars when the heart rate reaches it's maximum level.

personal best
It's pretty pathetic considering the running company I keep, but today was my finest day as a runner.....(or, well, as the wannabe runner I have become.)
4 miles NON-STOP!!!! In the middle of January when this fiasco started I was running a whopping 8 steps.
April 2: 5 miles. (I walked an additional one.)

ok, maybe not a very far distance. I am guessing a 3rd/4th job wasn't the best idea for trying to go to the gym consistently.

Old age or over weight????
This is the question of the day... Do my shins hurt so bad because I am overweight and it will go away when I cut back down to normal weight, or is it just a sign of old age.

HATE!!!
I know it's a strong word, but that is the best thing I can think of to say. As I was running tonight I had to stop because my shins were on the verge of collapse. Throughout this whole training deal I have had pain in my shins, but tonight was horribly painful. It hurts like crazy just to walk. Just as I get into my groove of being consistent it seems I get derailed by some sort of injury. My cardio feels great like I could run 5 miles easy, but my legs just won't cooperate. So frustrating.......

planning is necessary
Last week was pretty slow as far as running. I had a lot going on with both of my jobs last week, but I have realized that way more than a lack of time I suffer from a lack of time management. Starting this week I am working on putting myself on a schedule, and have decided to try work more from the office than home. Which I shouldn't complain about seeing as they gave me the cube with a window, and I have about 15 feet of desk space. It's actually pretty pimp as far as cubes are concerned.
I am well on pace to meet my monthly goal of 56 miles this month, but I somehow need to step it up to make up for last month. The rest of the month is BUSY, but knowing this is half the battle. I feel confident I can make up most of the miles.

back on track
I am 3 for 3 this week. Although, I had to cut my run a little short it was good. Instead of doing interval runs I have started to go for distance. My cardio actually feels great so now if my legs would cooperate this will be a party. Tonight I ran for two miles without stopping, and then I walked for 2 more miles in my "zone" for fat burning.

positive thinking
I am going to remain positive ALL month no matter what is going on. :) With that being said, day one was a smashing success as I went to the gym early in the day and put in my 4 miles. Due to the fact that I am trying to lose weight more than run a marathon, I spent more time than usual walking today. As APC pointed out in her posts, burning fat happens at lower heart rates. With the skid I went on for the last ten days of the month my weight creeped back up to 225. I was hoping to be at 220. Overall though, I am fairly happy because I had started at 237.

pathetic
I wish tomorrow could be the New Year. I can't remember ever having a worse start to any year in my life. GGRRRRRRR. Not to mention our running total is pathetic. I was only able to cover 38 miles this month. This WILL be the last month, and by the end of next month I will be caught up on all the miles I missed. The goal for March is 74 miles. Also, by April 1 I would like to be down to 210. (no Aprils Fools)

Outside Stroll
SO at some point, I needed to take this little run outside. I have never really walked outside for the miles and what not. I have been working my way to this point for a while. Two weeks ago I googled how far it was to 238 Roosevelt. .8 miles. 238 Roosevelt is where I went almost every day from the second grade until high school. The side walk on the way there used to have a whole square out of it which caused a great time trying to bunny hop it. I figured a route there that would pick up the extra .4 miles to get my 2 miles in.
It snowed from window all day and I know it would be cold. I noticed that there would be ice on the sidewalk, but today was the day. I loved being outside. Did I fall? YES! Did it hurt? My feelings. Did anyone see? TBD. Did I push the wrong way to cross the street in the cross walk? YEP Did I illegally cross the busiest road in the POC? Twice...while thinking rebel til I die. Did I walk down the middle of the road? Of course (really who wants to hit a man the size of a small calf) Will I do it again? Every chance I get!

The Turn
So I am a single Dad. Not that my kids do not have a mother that they see regularly, I am just single. (to all the ladies) I have my kids most nights. This week it has been tough to get those miles in. With V day and a father in the hospital. So I had a realization that I have a treadmill at work, that I can use during my lunch hour. This is big news for me. I can still keep up. My office looks over the city I was raised in. The view from the treadmill is a park that I have grown to love for a lot of reasons. So today the mile was not my sweetest but great memories came out of it. Plus it is always weird to shower at work.

so close!!!!
I am so close to my first goal. When I made my first post I weighed in at 237 which is about 47 lbs more than I would like to be. My first post was January 11 and my goal was to be down to 220 by March 1. Today I weighed in at 223.5. Once I reach this goal I can work on being down to 205 by May 1st and then doing my first 5k of the year. After March is over I will need to start swimming again so I will be able to do a couple Sprint Triathlons later this summer.

too late for running
Days like today I just wish I could have a normal schedule like a normal person. Maybe when I am grown up I will be normal. Although I can't complain because mixed in with these days that have me gone from the house for 16 hours, there are days where I am gone for only a couple. The only thing that keeps me somewhat pacified with the schedule is that if I ever do get married the flexibility would be awesome.
With that being said, and in spite of sore shins, tonight's run was once again therapeutic.

The Sweetest Mile
Due to an great conversation with a beautiful woman, I was late getting to the gym. My excuse of being late could be confused with the fact I thought the gym closed at 11. So when I got there I found the guy who has a mow hawk. He signed me up for the gym so I knew he had the answer.
I asked “hey man what time does the gym close.” He rebutted “ten.” It was in a tone that stated you fat S.O.B. I told you that when you paid me money.
So I decided with the little time that I had I would hit the bike, then hit my chest workout. I went .87 on the bike and then hit a bench. After the bench I hit the fly’s. While on the fly machine in the midst of the country I could here that face of D rack and the promise I made to help with this.
I had 20 minutes and mow hawk guy and the guy who I do not think works there, but hangs out with mow hawk guy were what seemed to be in a hurry. So I decided to hit it hard jogging/slash borderline running, side note I usually walk my miles. Today was different I had Colder Weather from the Zac Brown Band playing on repeat and the aches of my calves. Long story in the midst of the running/slogging, I realized the adrenaline that real runner might feel. So today I post 1 mile, and I am more proud of my mile then the 8 I walked last week. D Rack you rock! Running we can be acquaintances now!!

I love running?????
This may be true... I am sure everyone has had those days where they dislike (hate) absolutely everything about their life, and today was no exception for me. But, a couple of miles into my run I think there may have been a slightly upturned corner of the line across my face that could have been construed as not frowning. Through all the aches, pains, injuries, and sweat running in my eyes; running is now giving me an insane sense of accomplishment and enjoyment.

Century
It seems as though we have now, with my two miles from yesterday passed the century mark. What does that mean if we were running a relay and had a month to do so we be to Idaho Falls and back to Chubbuck. For those unfamiliar with the South East Idaho region, Idaho Falls is a major town and Chubbuck is the suburb of the greatest town known to man which is Pocatello. Which means land where God will dwell, in Shoshone. There have been major highlights to this weight loss and also a desire to be in shape. A desire to feel the burn in the calve. The desire to ponder entering in a 5k. It also has helped me realize that I can do more. So we may not be on pace and will pick it up, but it has been a great time none the less.

good start
Even though we fell short of the 167 mile/month we are off to a great start. We just need to average 175 for the remaining 11 months and we will be golden. Plus, I hadn't logged any miles until the 11th, and we have Nate in our back pocket for an upcoming explosion of miles. Between Robert and I we have already lost the weight equivalent of a 3 year old child. :o)
Clothes were flying everywhere.......
and again I exaggerate, but nonetheless one of my shirts was flying. As in it is no longer in the lineup because it is toooo big. :) When I bought the shirt it was borderline whether or not it would fit, but now after losing a little weight it looks ridiculously big on me. I normally wouldn't purchase anything that would be useless right away, but it was only $4, and I knew it was be a great psychological boost to "un-grow" it.

BAARRRFFFFFFF
Ok, let's get back to reality. Being injured still sucks because I feel like such a cheater by "running" on a elliptical. Although being smart with an Achilles is definitely the smart thing to do. Plus Natalie advised me to take it easy, and realistically, I could never disagree with someone as cute as her. The upside though is that my I should be way ahead of the curve for the Sprint Triathlon training.

after telling myself that for a couple of hours after a long day I made it to the gym. Unfortunately my achilles problem has not resolved itself. Sprint-Tri training starting early
Being injured is pretty crappy!! I hated running on the elliptical and seeing the treadmill call my name. Call me crazy, but I even think the lights on the console were making a puppy dog face at me. I was hoping to focus the entire first quarter simply on running and getting back in shape. Today I decided to start the Sprint Triathlon training early and throw in a quick 8 mile bike ride after an hour on the elliptical. I feel like I am cheating myself by running on the elliptical, but at least with the added biking I am getting a kick butt workout.
To the ladies we apologize for our poor organization of the mileage. We are trying to figure this blog thing out and have a great way to keep track of our miles. Also, I have confirmation from Mr. Jagoda that he will be joining the squad officially by February 1st. Nate and I are even cancelling our cable to make sure that we are focused on getting ourselves to the gym.

I have man boobs, I am not afraid to admit it. It seems though when I lose weight that the scar from underneath the right one is more prominent. I like when I can see it, it means that I am losing weight. I started 2011 without a plan to make that scar shine. (The scar is of a football helmet buckle that somehow scarred me for life.)
Then one day I was on face book and a great friend told me about the scheme to run 2011 miles. Being not much of a runner I begged to be in the game. He graciously let me and also gave me an outlet to share my feeling about my progress. I started the Journey at 325 pounds which is down from when we met in Alaska two years ago but up from this summer. Right now my current miles is 30. I feel really good about this and it gives me a goal. I am down 9 lbs on my way to lose 40...thanks D Rack.

Injured..... :(
Sad, but true, but at least not serious. It seems that I strained or stretched my achilles tendon. When I woke up this morning and started walking around it wouldn't work. It felt exactly like the time (ok, there have been 3 ankle casts) that I had a cast taken off my ankle and couldn't walk.
Any miles posted for at least the next 3-4 days will come from the elliptical.

So I was all ready to take the evening off and I was sabotaged by kindness. It was 7:30 and I was ready to call it a night when I had to drive to St. Paul to return a set of keys for a property I had worked on. On my mind was fast food and then some couch time. Just as I was leaving the lady tells me good job on the running. She told me I was looking good..... cancel the gym, cancel the fast food, cancel the being lazy, and hello gym....
